About FangyiThe next one is in the works.
Linquan (林泉) means woods and springs; in old usage, the place one retires to. The painter Guo Xi wrote that landscape should be approached “with the heart of woods and springs.” The painting at the top of this page changes colour with the seasons, and the line beside it is his, one of four he wrote on the mountains of the four seasons.
The world turns faster and faster, and people can’t slow down either. Yet only the machines and the news are fast, not the days themselves: we still eat and sleep, and the year still passes through four seasons. Linquan is dear for this reason: it keeps, for the slowness tucked away inside us, a place where we can still take a deep breath.
The studio takes its name from it.
